So lets say average console gamer who has school or work clocks 5 hours a day, so that’s over 3 years worth of use without any bur in. That pretty much amounts to 15 hours a day. I had my LG CX for 13 months now and managed to clock in almost 6000 hours so far without any burnin. Using OLED screen as a PC monitor could be considered an extreme use case… It’s just like insurance believe me they are making a profit. Only a small percentage of people use their warranty. Now imagine an old couple or none gamer couple going to buy an OLED they hardly watch tv but have the money they get the Warranty and boom more money in their pockets. But I wanted that peace of mind that would let me use the TV how I want it and not worry about it. But when I bought it I knew it wasn’t for burn-in prevention as Burn-In since the C9 is been almost non existent. I imagine the majority of people won’t reach The 7,600+ in years. That said again a have thousands of hours and have not ever experienced Screen Retention or Burn-In. But when I do if not DV/HDR I’m at 85% with peak brightness Max. And since I use Apple TV 4K (2021) I always have Dolby Vision on Max Settings. Everything Max, I watch a ton of content Max settings. That said I game on Dolby Vision or HDR cause almost every game has it already. I put my self in the hardcore usage as I work 3 12hr Days and I’m off 4 days. Im just wondering if anyone has opinion on this? So 1,2 years from now, when dealing with the high number of claims, they may unilaterally change the terms and conditions, and those who already purchased will have no choice but to suck it up.ģ) it’s just business as usual and Im overthinking it ? Today, OLED is brand new technology, their warranty hasn’t yet been updated to reflect the situation. So Why do Bestbuy- a for profit corporation, do this ?ġ)) they’ll probably send me refurbished or slightly defective units as replacement, so I run the risks of having to keep sending them back for another replacements.Ģ) LCD, Regular Tv’s burn in is extremely rare, and this warranty was originally designed to address those TVs. Sounds like a too good deal for me and a terrible one for Bestbuy? It’s worth noting that the manufacturer themselves- LG, only offers 1 years limited warranty. So theoretically end up getting 3 TVs for the total price of only $2000. Now, having bought their 4 years warranty, I’ll likely have 2 times to claim burn-in and get replacement. Therefore I expect my 55c1 to have some sort of burn-in after 1.5 years or so, with my usage (as monitor, 10+ hours a day). But only a very small fraction or people use OLED as PC monitor, and even lesser who will bought and actually use warranty.Īccording to what I have read so far, Oled burn-in is a very real problem that happen to amost everyone, and it’s cumulative, so no matter how careful we use our Oled: 10 hours on straight is the same as 1 hours each day for 10 days. There’re also some precaution you can take that reduce burn-in.Ģ) Only when used as PC monitor, there come some risks. What I learned:ġ) basically, if you use OLED for video game consoles, home theatres … there’s not that much risk of burn-in, especially with newer and maturing technology. Feel like I need to edit this post to not mislead others if they read it, since I have got a couple things wrong originally. They always help.Įdit: thanks for all the responses.
